When I see old people I tend to assume that they were good when they were young
That they knew what they were doing, that they loved the Lord so much
But I never realized that this freak show's been parked here from the first turn round the sun, oh
When I see children I think, God, why did You have to make them small?
They can't defend themselves and they're so easy to break when they fall
But I never realized that not everyone's childhood is meant to be a frightening one, oh
I don't know why we move and breathe the way we do
I know I'm standing here but honestly now what's it all to you?
You never realized your own worth from the moment of your birth
But I don't know
I guess I've gotta let it go
When I see white men I wonder how you'd ever have it made
Just by being born and parachuting into life unscathed
But I never realized that there's good and bad in everyone, oh
When I see soldiers I'm in awe of the fact that they can pull that trigger back
For glory or to save a friend my own courage has its ends
But I never realized that it's even wrong to run, oh
I don't know why we move and breathe the way we do
I know I'm standing here but honestly now what's it all to you?
You never realized your own worth from the moment of your birth
But I don't know
I guess I've gotta let it go
